Ethiopia is currently experiencing a severe drought due to two consecutive poor rainy seasons, which means that millions of people are now in need of assistance.
Humanitarian aid has prevented the drought in the Amhara and Afar regions from turning into a full scale disaster. But as El Niño is set to worsen an already difficult situation, resources and supplies need to be stepped up.
This is what a joint visit by the European Commission, the EU Delegation to Ethiopia, and EU humanitarian partners, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Save the Children and Action Against Hunger concluded after recently visiting some of the affected areas to assess the humanitarian needs.
